the questionWhat had administrators established and recovered by the documentary cutoff?

1Appointment and creditor claims

analysisRaja’s proposed administration application was withdrawn before the creditors’ application succeeded. Ben Browne, Simon Appell and Alastair Beveridge were initially appointed; Beveridge ceased to act for MFS on 19 March 2026 as appointments across Amber and Zircon were rearranged to address conflicts. 1 2 3

qualification
Katz said withdrawal was intended to enable an urgent out-of-court appointment and disputed suggestions of a prior relationship with Raja.
outcome
The court appointed the AlixPartners administrators and refused the requested adjournment; it treated the applicant funders as contingent creditors.

analysisApril proposals estimated £1,805,691,015 of unsecured claims, including £1,516,364,863 of contingent claims and £171,771,789 attributed to private investors. The September report revised the estimate but printed inconsistent totals. The figures were not admitted debt balances or promises of distributions. 3 4

qualification
The proposals warn of inaccurate/inconsistent books and records; claims were estimated and not yet adjudicated. Claims were unadjudicated and records unreliable. The OCR creditors-deficiency line reads £4,807,112,828 while the final total reads £1,807,612,828; the conflicting deficiency totals cannot be reconciled from the retained transcription. Listed creditor categories sum to £1,805,691,016, a £1 rounding/transcription difference from the reported total. The report contains an unresolved £90 million inconsistency between its summary and narrative. Claims remain provisional, not formally adjudicated for distributions, and returns are uncertain.

2Assets, servicing and procedure funding

analysisThe opening schedule listed £318,366,810 of assets at book value, including mortgages, group-company receivables, cash and software. Recovery was uncertain for nearly all large items. The September report separately identified £28,154,278 of bridging loans and £11,111,911 of potentially recoverable buy-to-let loans, the latter including interest over ten-year terms ending in 2035–2036. The £244,137 collected on the earlier portfolio remained subject to entitlement review. 1 2

qualification
The £152,063 is a quantified subtotal alongside uncertain major recoveries, not a final valuation of the entire estate. Bridge recovery is uncertain. The source of buy-to-let funding was still being reconciled and would determine whether MFS was entitled to collections.

analysisFinancial creditors funded the administration and litigation through limited-recourse arrangements. The receipts-and-payments statement for 25 February to 24 August 2026 showed £21,189,000 received, £13,524,054 paid and £7,664,946 remaining. Reported time costs are a separate measure from cash paid. Servicing transferred to Lenvi as the original arrangements ended. 1 2

qualification
The third-party loans are repayable from realisations and are not distributable estate recoveries. Commitment/indemnity fees were payable under funding agreements to creditors supporting the litigation; collections were subject to competing entitlement claims. Time costs are distinct from cash payments. The report says approved administrator fees and expenses had not yet been drawn at its date, and loan collections were subject to competing entitlement claims.

3Continuing recovery proceedings

analysisThe administrators’ claim against Raja seeks £1.3 billion and was accompanied by English and Dubai interim restraints. Raja disputes the calculation and says at least £950 million in properties held by associated parties was held on trust for the MFS group; he attributes the collapse to frozen banking operations. A separate Part 8 claim concerns eleven MFS accounts at Barclays and competing proprietary and trust interests. Neither claim has a final disposition in the retained reports. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

qualification
These are claims and protective freezing orders, not a final damages judgment. At the April proposals’ date, the statement of claim was still being prepared; orders permit limited living/legal expenses with consent. This is a pleaded claim, not a final liability finding. The report gives the position at its own reporting date; no later defence outcome is inferred. This is an attributed account in the retained reporting, with the stated procedural and source limits; it is not a determination of the underlying contested allegation.
response
Raja denies wrongdoing, disputes the £1.3 billion calculation and says at least £950 million in properties held through related parties should be credited to MFS Group. Barclays rejects his attribution of the collapse to the bank and says it acted in accordance with its legal and regulatory obligations. Raja has denied fraud and dishonesty in the retained media accounts and, in a report dated 30 September 2026, attributed the collapse to Barclays’s November 2025 account freeze. Barclays said it acted throughout in accordance with legal and regulatory obligations and attributed the alleged fraud to MFS and Raja; Raja contests the administrators’ attribution and arithmetic. Barclays said it acted in accordance with legal and regulatory obligations and alleged the fraud was caused by MFS and Raja. Raja’s account is his contested defence.
outcome
The court granted a defence extension to 25 September 2026 and the substantive claim remained ongoing at the report date.

analysisCreditors approved the proposals without modification on 26 May 2026 and formed a committee. The reported administration expiry was 24 February 2027, with an extension anticipated. Any distribution to unsecured creditors would require the applicable administration or liquidation route; it was not assured. 6 8

qualification
The retained filing contains OCR gaps and damaged registration-number cells; the five names are supported by legible name fields and the progress report’s committee count, not inferred from damaged digits.
